With a screenplay by Jon Spaihts, Villeneuve, and Eric Roth, Dune is the first of a planned two-part adaptation of Frank Herbert’s 1965 science fiction novel. The plot centres on Paul (Chalamet), the son of a noble family who is tasked with traveling to the universe’s most dangerous planet in order to ensure the future of his people. What presumably ensues is an all-out interplanetary war amongst legends.
The Legendary Pictures movie is the result of a massive $165 million budget and was originally scheduled to premiere in November 2020, however it was pushed back due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The film is now set to premiere at the 78th Venice International Film Festival on September 3, 2021 before hitting theatres shortly thereafter. It will be available to stream on HBO Max on October 22, 2021.
