From ’90s Miami to Scandinavian Workwear, Here’s Our Favorite Pieces From Stenströms SS23

Functional pieces that can be worn on the coast, in the city, and everywhere in between.

Stenströms SS23

The historical aspect of the Stenströms story is anything but ordinary. In 1883, the brand began as a general store founded by August Stenström. Rumor has it that the shop operated with a tailor in the backroom, catering to the local crowd, and by 1899 Augusto turned the operation into full-scale shirt making factory. Over the next 15 years, Stenströms grew to become the largest shirt factory in Scandinavia with 140 employees, sewing each piece by hand.

That’s 140 years of expertise being put into play. Today, Stenströms still operates with Augusto’s mentality and values. We could talk about the 60-step process that each shirt goes through during production, or about their handcrafted buttons which likely cost 100 times more than plastic, but today we’re here to talk about the new SS23 collection, and why we’re excited about it.

More specifically, we’re going to talk about a few looks that caught our attention. For years, we’ve been cautious of prosaic button-downs with little style or bray, the sort of shirt that Bay Street sophomores wear to autumn orientation, but that’s not what you’re getting here. While he was out at Pitti this year, we nabbed Stenströms creative director, Peter Jüriado, to ask him what inspired the menswear drop this season.

“The color palette of the ultra-luxe extravagance of Miami in the 1980s and 90s,” he told us. In conjunction with Italian Riviera influence and Scandinavian utility workwear, Jüriado has managed to incorporate the best of three words for a full line of functional, versatile pieces that can be worn on the coast, in the city, and everywhere in between.
